TWELFTH 
BIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BAROQUE MUSIC

The Twelfth Conference will be hosted by the the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw  from Wednesday, July 26th to Sunday, July 30th 2006

The Conference on Baroque Music has grown rapidly in scale and prestige since it began at Durham University in the 1980s. In recent years it has been held in Dublin (2000), Logrońo (2002), and Manchester (2004). The twelfth conference will be the first to take place in Central Europe – in Poland, after this country has joined the European Union.

In line with the previous meetings, the conference in Warsaw will be devoted to the studies of various aspects of Baroque music. To maintain the conference’s high standards of academic excellence, we expect to present a programme that accommodate diverse aspects of research so that scholars can share their recent findings and discuss them with leading specialists in their fields. We also hope that this will be an ideal opportunity to meet scholars from all over the world, in particular a large number of musicologists from Central and Eastern Europe.

A number of concerts and exhibitions will be organized as part of the Warsaw conference programme. As in the previous years, a wide range of books in music and editions will be available for purchase.

Plenary sessions will be held in a recently renovated historic building, formerly the University Library. We are hoping that the Conference will open on 26 July 2006 in the Senators’ Hall in the Royal Palace in Warsaw.

Registration for the conference will be made using the official registration form. It should be returned to the congress organisers.
